Hope Park health posts
Opened in 2017, Hope Park is without equal in South African townships, with its separate health posts for infants, young children and teenagers, its Child Nutrition Centre (already sponsored by the law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright) and its community hall/education centre. The health posts and community hall offer life-saving and life-enhancing services to children and young people and each now require sponsors to cover the cost of maintenance and services. Masekhane sports and performing arts arena
A new project planned for mid-2019, the Masekhane arena will sit next to the Hope Park Children’s Health Campus, providing a multi-function children’s sports court – the only sports facility for children and young people in Munsieville’s fast-growing informal settlement – and a beautiful arts arena, so that young performers can express themselves through dance, theatre and music. Pre-school centre makeover
When The Thoughtful Path was established in Munsieville in 2010, hundreds of pre-school children were cared for in very poor conditions, with no trained staff and no educational toys, books or play equipment. But things have changed. We organised professional training to over 50 creche operators who are now providing a high-quality service and the best preparation for success when children enrol in primary school. Home safety campaigns
Across South Africa, many children lose their lives in fires that spread through shack homes in seconds. However, in Munsieville no lives have been lost in this way since 2013 when we launched a series of campaigns demonstrating to householders that the safety of their children is “in their hands”. You Grow-They Grow family vegetable gardens
Over 250 high-yield, drought-resistant gardens have been installed in Munsieville over the past 18 months, as part of our strategy to eliminate childhood malnutrition by the end of 2020. To reach this target we need to install another 1700 gardens, most of them at shack homes. You can sponsor a garden for R400 and know that once it is installed, the children and their parents/caregivers will treasure and nurture it for years to come, providing fresh, vitamin-rich vegetables for up to eleven months each year.
