Home safety campaigns

Across South Africa, many children lose their lives in fires that spread through shack homes in seconds. However, in Munsieville no lives have been lost in this way since 2013 when we launched a series of campaigns demonstrating to householders that the safety of their children is “in their hands”. These door-to-door campaigns were led by health and safety professionals from GlaxoSmithKline plc, and focused on simple, cost-free steps that can dramatically reduce the risk of fires, paraffin ingestion and other home hazards. But campaigns like this need to be repeated, through home visits and home safety festivals in the community. Sponsorship of a campaign will save lives at the same time as instilling a “can-do attitude” into the hearts of householders.
